Doctor William Costigan received his medical degree “with highest distinction” from the University of Southern California in 1994. He then went on to complete his residency at the LAC+USC Medical Center where he also served as departmental Chief Resident as well as receiving the Leonard Marmour Outstanding Resident Award in 1998 and the USC School of Medicine Outstanding Teaching Award in 1999. Following completion of his orthopaedic training, Dr. Costigan completed a one-year fellowship in spinal surgery with Robert Watkins, MD and Lytton Williams, MD at the University of Southern California’s Center for Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery.

To further his expertise in the field of spinal surgery, Dr. Costigan then elected to travel overseas for additional spinal training at the world famous Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, England. Under the guidance of renowned surgeon emeritus Sir John Webb, FRCS, Dr. Costigan completed another one year fellowship in complex spinal reconstruction and scoliosis, and became proficient in all aspects of both operative and non-operative spinal care and surgery.

Following his work in Nottingham, Dr. Costigan then undertook a third “traveling” fellowship throughout western Europe. He spent an additional 6 months traveling to all of the major spinal surgery and treatment centers in England, France, Germany and Switzerland. During this time, Dr. Costigan received an unparalleled experience operating and discussing spinal principles and advanced techniques with many of the greatest spinal surgeons in the world.

With this extensive experience, Dr. Costigan has developed a comprehensive program for the treatment of spinal disorders and pain. Even though he is exceptionally trained in the surgical management of spinal disease, he emphasizes the non- operative management of many spinal conditions.
